LA Mayor’s Office: Endorsement of Hillary Clinton sent in error

Mayor Eric Garcetti endorsed Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign today, but the announcement became a political fiasco when it was issued by the mayor’s office then quickly retracted – because state and local laws bar the use of public resources for election purposes.

On Wednesday, pop diva Christina Aguilera and her producer fiancé, Matthew Rutler, reportedly hosted Clinton’s first L.A. fundraiser-which was described as a concert-at their Beverly Hills home where Aguilera reportedly performed with American music duo A Great Big World, best known for their Grammy-winning hit “Say Something”.

She also told the gathering that the Republicans are “persistent” and it’s important for Democrats to be “vigilant and active” on key issues, such as voter rights, women’s rights, gay rights and immigration reform. Those who raise $10,000 will get four tickets.

Clinton today is attending a pair of fundraisers – one of which was also attended by Garcetti – and will appear tonight on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. Those raising $27,000 for the campaign will be able to mingle with Clinton at a special host reception at the Reiner compound. Among the organizers of the event are CAA’s Michael Kives and Darnell Strom.

And here’s what makes this even more Keystone Cop-like: Garcetti is now at a fundraiser with Clinton herself at the Hancock Park home of NBCUniversal executive Joe Watz and Cynthia Telles, Director of UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute Spanish-speaking Psychosocial Clinic.

On Friday, Kives is hosting Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook for an event at his home, with Zach Braff and Kate Hudson as co-hosts. Tickets start at $500, with those donating $2,700 getting to pose for a picture with Clinton and those raising $27,000 being admitted to a “host reception”, Variety reported. The host committee also includes the Saban Family Foundation’s Alex De Ocampo and Democratic strategists Michael Trujillo and Bill Burton.

Hillary Clinton returned to Los Angeles on Wednesday for her fifth fundraising swing since launching her presidential race starting with one of her largest Hollywood events yet at the Beverly Hills home of Christina Aguilera and fiance Matthew Rutler
