Andrea Leadsom quit the race hours after Ms Eagle challenged Jeremy Corbyn for the leadership of the Labour party.

Polls suggest Mrs May could indeed now improve on David Cameron’s 2015 election results.
But former Conservative Party politician and radio presenter Iain Dale pushed back against that idea and questioned if Labour were in any condition to compete with the Tories under Mrs May.
“In Mrs May we will have a Prime Minister who has the experience, the judgement and the leadership to start that job from day one”.
‘More importantly we had this European vote just a couple of weeks ago.
President Barack Obama on Friday reaffirmed his confidence that the US and its European allies will continue to work together on critical global challenges despite the decision by Britain to leave the European Union.
Constitutionally, Mrs May is perfectly entitled simply to take up where Mr Cameron leaves off as long as she can continue to command a majority in the House of Commons.
To call an election May would need the backing of two thirds of all MPs in the Commons under the Fixed Term Parliament Act.
“Just 13 months after the last election the Conservatives have plunged the United Kingdom into chaos”, said Farron. “It is time for the Labour Party to unite and ensure the millions of people in the country left behind by the Tories” failed economic policies, have the opportunity to elect a Labour government’. “The Conservatives must not be allowed to ignore the electorate, their mandate is shattered and lies in ruins”.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron also called for a snap poll, saying Britain “deserves better than this”, while Green MP Caroline Lucas said holding another election was “a necessity”.
Farron went on: “May has not set out an agenda, and has no right to govern”. “I am now putting the whole of the party on a General Election footing”, the senior Corbyn ally said.
Will Theresa May chose to call another election?
Writing in the Guardian today, he said it was “inconceivable” for her to stay on until 2020 without even having been elected by her own party and urged her to call an election to seek a “democratic mandate”.
Veteran Conservative grassroots campaigner John Strafford, of the Campaign for Conservative Democracy, said her election was “the biggest stitch-up since the Bayeaux Tapestry”. She also argued that a general election campaign would be “another destabilising factor”.
While we don’t have room to outline where May stands on the many issues facing Britain, you can find those stances here and here. When Brits vote, they are not electing a prime minister but electing their local Member of Parliament.
In countries like France and the USA, voters elect a president, a head of state who has an individual mandate for a fixed term, which separate from the legislative body.

“I think Theresa has been faultless in how she has been, faultless in how she has put her message across”.
