He said that he and the Islington MP had both discussed “allowing an open and decisive, directly democratic, bottom up approach to debate and policy generation”, adding that his win had made Mr Turton consider joining the Labour Party.

The weird turn of events began as Buzzfeed politics reporter Jamie Ross attempted to pass on the refreshment to Corbyn, who didn’t seem taken with the gesture.

Despite flirting with the prospect of campaigning for Britain to leave the European Union in the upcoming referendum, promised by the end of 2017, Mr Corbyn has now signed his party up to maintaining ties with Brussels. Shadow worldwide Development Secretary Dianne Abbott went on to attack Ms Eagle’s comments, while Shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham has suggested that he could resign from the Shadow Cabinet if the party adopts an anti-Trident stance.

Prior to his arrival in Edinburgh, he stated: “Kezia Dugdale is leader of our party in Scotland and I will be working alongside her to win back support for Labour“. He said: “One of the biggest threats we have to respond to is that terrorist threat and that means a lot of things in terms of obviously domestic security and our intelligence services”.

“My personal view is that we need to have a nuclear deterrent and I will be arguing that point very forcefully within the Labour Party“. I’m opposed to the holding of nuclear weapons.

Following Mr Corbyn’s speech at the Labour’s party conference on Tuesday, market research company Ipsos MORI ran two discussion groups with potential voters in Croydon Central – a target seat for Labour.

‘Personally I think it is really risky for us to give those weapons up except if it is part of a negotiation where everyone gives up.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has told Sky News he accepts a few members of his team may not agree with his policy on Syria.

Jeremy Corbyn risked a fresh row with Labour MPs over defence policy as he indicated he would never launch a nuclear strike if he was prime minister.

‘I totally disagree with Jeremy Corbyn on Trident, ‘ he said.

Speaking in advance of the visit, Mr Corbyn said: “Under my leadership there will be no question about who is in charge of the Scottish Labour Party“. Why should those five need it themselves?

The Tory leader also insisted he would be prepared to deploy the UK’s nuclear deterrent.

Mr Corbyn, who said he could “obviously” imagine being in Number 10, had previously stressed he has a mandate from party members for his opposition to renewing the Trident nuclear deterrent.
