Labour extends leadership voter registration deadline after website crash

Supporters of Mr Corbyn have the numbers to “mount a partial takeover” and do not think it matters if Labour wins an election, while “some actually disdain government”, Mr Blair said. “It will mean rout, possibly annihilation”, Blair, a former Labour party leader, stated in an article for the Guardian newspaper.

With the polls indicating Ms Kendall could finish fourth, her supporters’ choice of second preference could influence the result.

Brian Marley, a Brighton-based writer who received a confirmation email from Labour in June, said he then received an email telling him he needed to reactivate his membership if he wanted to vote. That the former PM waited until after registration had closed to act shows he recognises the danger that his words could only galvanise the left.

Jeremy Corbyn, the frontrunner in the UK Labour leadership contest, has blamed his party’s defeat in the General Election on its failure to present an anti-austerity economic plan.

The huge influx of support has boosted the chances of Jeremy Corbyn, the party’s most left-wing candidate.

Mr Corbyn, who is also calling for an increase in taxes on the wealthy, is one of four contenders for the leadership including Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham and Liz Kendall – who made a visit to North Wales two weeks ago.

Cllr Hont said: “I will be speaking for Andy Burnham at the hustings, and there will be representatives for each of the other candidates – it’s for the Wavertree constituency Labour party and I’m glad that it’s going ahead”.

He warned that even if Mr Corbyn does not win his emboldened supporters will use their “newfound influence” within the party to “take out” whoever becomes the Labour leader.

Mr Corbyn wrote: “Labour has drifted into a presidential model of politics in which the leader and their office comes up with all the policies”.

Ms Kendall, regarded as the Blairite candidate in the field, said in a radio interview: “I don’t think Jeremy’s policies are right for 2015, let alone 2020 or 2025”.

The Labour party has announced to have extended the deadline to register to vote in its leadership contest in light of some “technical issues” with its website. The Labour party has paid the price of Iraq.

Whichever of them gets it I will support, but it’s up to the members and Labour supporters to vote.

The rule change introduced by Mr Miliband has led to fears of “entryism” but the party insists it has robust procedures to identify and stop such votes being cast.
