In a statement that prompted Mr McNicol’s retort, Mr McDonnell said: “Labour party members will not accept what appears to be a rigged purge of Jeremy Corbyn supporters”.

Speaking in Edinburgh, Mr Corbyn is expected to say: “Drawing on Britain’s rich cultural heritage, Labour under my leadership will commit to extending access and participation in the arts to all people and all communities across Britain”.

“That wasn’t possible, so I went to the end of the train”.

But the reality is that it was only ever the members of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP), and not the majority of party members and supporters, who wanted Corbyn to step down as leader.

Jeremy Corbyn was forced to angrily deny he voted for the United Kingdom the leave the European Union by his challenger to be the next Labour leader.

“Locally I think we could be in danger of losing all three Labour seats in Kirklees, as well as dozens up and down the country”.

Mr Corbyn was on his way to debate with Owen Smith in a Labour leadership hustings in Gateshead when pictured on the train.

Mr Corbyn said the referendum had taken place and delivered a result, which was not the one he wanted but it had to be respected.

And Ms Trevelyan took a swipe at the opposition party, as ballot papers for the second leadership election in two years are sent out.

But Virgin Trains released CCTV images which appear to show Mr Corbyn and his team walking past empty unreserved and reserved seats at 11.07am.

Now the Labour Party is sifting through 180,000 new members to ensure they are not part of other groups. Yes, I did look for two empty seats together so I could sit down with my wife to talk to her.

Corbyn has since said he misspoke.

Many other Labour Party members also complained after receiving letters telling them they had been suspended or their application to join rejected.

The Labour leader is now battling to cling on to his job in the face of a leadership challenge from Pontypridd MP Owen Smith.

He touted himself as the man to provide a “coherent narrative” that would actively try and win over millions of people who voted for the Tories in last year’s general election.

The Jeremy for Labour campaign called on Pontypridd MP Mr Smith to retract his remarks at an event in Hammersmith.
