Gaga has previously revealed she is a survivor of sexual assault, which made song Til It Happens To You all the more personal.

Since the performance, Gaga and other survivors got matching tattoos – tiny symbols of “unity” that, according to David Allen (her tattoo artist), represent “an image of solidarity for survivors of sexual assault”.

After that woman made the suggestion, Gaga, 29, asked the group who else felt pain as a result of what happened to them.

Following her Oscars performance, Gaga admitted she was an emotional mess ahead of the big show because she struggled to accept she was a survivor, too.

‘I don’t want to be defined by it, ‘ she told Howard Stern in 2014.

“You were 20 years older than me”. “They said, ‘No, no, it’s more real this way, ‘ and then one girl said, ‘I really want to get matching tattoos.’ She was trying to make me feel not alone and she was dead on”. I actually suffer from chronic pain all the time – and it’s from the paralysing fear that I’ve experienced for nearly 10 years. She’s been vocal about standing up for survivors on Twitter, and has supported Kesha both online and in person through the recent stages of her legal case against Dr. Luke.

“They told me they were there for me to support me because they believed this message needed to be heard”.

The Applause singer has revealed that she, too, is a survivor of sexual assault, and said in an Instagram post that her Academy Awards appearance, in which she was joined by survivors of sexual violence, had been tough. Another snap was of a recording studio, captioned: “This is not a bedroom this is my office”. She also asked fans which way round to get the intrinsic design before showing the finished product on the left side of her upper back.
