Lady Gaga Returns With Her New Single “Perfect Illusion”

Although Gaga had a long reign as one of music’s biggest names, her pop music career has recently taken a backseat to acting and releasing more adult-oriented music. At points, it nearly sounds like the classic rock band Queen. All in all, it’s a talent-packed affair.

Earlier this week, Lady Gaga announced via social media that her latest single, “Perfect Illusion” would drop on Friday September 9th.

We don’t know much about the album that this single will eventually promote, but Gaga was willing to say that a duet with Florence and the Machine will appear on the album. Her 2013 conceptual album, Artpop, didn’t really resonate and it’s been a while since we’ve heard the typical Gaga sound.

The news made it through the airwaves and straight to social media, causing a frenzy. However, when you think about her legacy, this song will probably not come close to the best ones of her career.

The lyrics themselves are surprisingly poetic for the upbeat rhythm they accompany: “Caught up in your show / at least now I know, it wasn’t love / it wasn’t love, it was a ideal illusion / Mistaken for love, it was a flawless illusion”.

“I work on a typewriter and we would bounce new lyrics back and forth”, she said. But there’s also a lot of things that are on the internet that aren’t reality.

Lady Gaga has recorded a track with Florence Welch on her new album. That’s what the song is about, wanting people to re-establish human connection and be OK with accepting we’re in this place. The melody was changed a couple of times until they had the final version of the song which they all liked. “I sat at piano, Kevin was on guitar, Mark was on the bass”.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Lady Gaga is not one to make a formulaic pop song. According to Entertainment Weekly, the singer also revealed some news regarding the new album, including information about collaborations.
