Lafayette Theater Shooting: La. Gov. Bobby Jindal Ducks Gun-Control Talk

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says it appears that suspect John Russel Houser had not planned to die. He said that the teacher were out to enjoy a movie prior to school starting in a few weeks and that one of the teachers threw herself in front of the other teacher in an effort to shield them.

Jindal described his hospital visit to victims of the shooting rampage at the Grand Theatre late Thursday and learning of the two teachers who both had been shot.

“Even though she was shot in the leg, she had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm to help save other lives”, Jindal said. One teacher jumped “in front of a bullet to save her friend’s life”, he said.

Calling the shooting an “awful, senseless, needless tragedy”, Jindal described “pools of blood” inside the theater, saying that the theater was typical of others, but with “this horrific violence” at the center.

Three people were killed, including the gunman, and seven injured in the shooting in Lafayette, police said.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) quickly made his way from Baton Rouge, LA, to Lafayette, LA.

Said Jindal: “This is a time for us to come together”.

More than 100 people were in the theater at the time of the shooting, according to Louisiana State Police. Jindal also expressed his grief for the tragedy. What we can do now is pray.
