Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (shoulder) out against Thunder on Saturday

After Bryant, arguably the greatest player in last decade’s era as well as arguably the best Los Angeles Laker of all-time, recently announced his plan of retiring at the end of this 2015-16 season, many are slowly accepting the fact that a significant era in basketball is slowly ending.

He downplayed his discomfort after the Lakers lost, 118-78, their worst showing ever in 236 games against the Seattle/Oklahoma City franchise.

The Los Angeles Lakers might be a team of the past. Los Angeles defenders looked helpless trying to defend Durant, and he along with Russell Westbrook pretty much had their way throughout the entire game. Bryant and Durant dined in a restaurant in Oklahoma on Friday night.

Kobe Bryant sat out as Thunder and Durant thrashed Lakers on Saturday. The Lakers trailed the Houston Rockets by eight at the time and would lose by 20.

“We just had to stay focus and keep doing what we do every night”, Kanter said. In the six games before missing Saturday’s game in Oklahoma City, Bryant has averaged 18.83 points on 48.8 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds and four assists in 29.33 minutes per contest. Matt Barnes also doubled up with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Thunder had seven dunks in the first half, three of them alley-oops from Westbrook to Steven Adams. The reigning Sixth Man of the Year tallied 20 points and three steals in 27 minutes.

Predictably, Durant outscored the Lakers’ second-round pick, 22-4.

Lakers coach Byron Scott expressed dismay, saying according to the Los Angeles Times: “Kobe’s fearless”.

“Kobe’s fearless”, Scott said. “They didn’t play well at all and really just got embarrassed by the way we played tonight”. “Come out ready and focus on what we need to focus on and do our job”.

“We put together run after run and we just continued to do things that we needed to do”, Rockets interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. Bryant was never older than 24 years old when the two met, but it’s apparent His Airness made his presence felt against Kobe, even in the closing stage of his career. “For me, the most important thing and handsome thing is how does your legacy impact the generation of players to come and the generation of players that are now playing”. The Thunder won for the fifth straight time against the Lakers.

Inhibited by injuries in recent seasons, Bryant is now suffering with a sore right shoulder, and his performances have not been up the standard his fans have grown accustomed to during his stellar career.

“(Ranking) players is a little tougher for me”, said Bryant, who also mentioned Gary Payton and Anfernee Hardaway. “I think they’ve given me a fantastic opportunity”.

The soreness was in the same shoulder in which Bryant suffered a torn rotator cuff last season. He said he would play Tuesday at Denver.

Russell was assessed a technical foul for his celebration of Bryant’s dunk, which included running across the baseline.

Even on the bench, Bryant remained the focus of conversation. “It’s awesome. Not too many people can say that”.
