Lakers sign forward Thomas Robinson, likely to sign Metta World Peace too

Robinson was perhaps the most intriguing player left on a barren free-agent market and could prove to be a nice bargain pickup for the Lakers.

Robinson was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft by Sacramento. The Lakers announced Wednesday that they had signed forward Thomas Robinson.

Kobe Bryant has ended his storied 20-year National Basketball Association career, but the Lakers have kept another player connected to their successful past.

The Los Angeles Lakers have plenty of young guys on their roster.

Over the course of his 16 years in the NBA, Metta World Peace proved that he was one of the most intense – not to mention insane – players that the league has ever seen. World Peace has also made two All-Defensive First Teams, two All-Defensive Second Teams and was named to the All-Star Game in 2004.

World Peace will join the Lakers for training camp and compete with Zach Auguste, Julian Jacobs, Zach Auguste and Travis Wear for a spot on their roster.

After re-joining the Lakers last fall, Metta World Peace is back again.

The Lakers certainly don’t need World Peace; between forwards Brandon Ingram and Luol Deng, every minute at the small forward position is probably accounted for.

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off their worst season ever, a 17-win 2015-16 campaign that saw Kobe Bryant ride off into the sunset on a 50-point performance against the Utah Jazz on the final day of the season. The 25-year-old Robinson has averaged 4.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game. He started in 77 games that season and was an integral part of the Lakers championship run, which ended with a Game 7 win over the Boston Celtics.
