Lambert named new Blackburn manager

Lambert has been out of work since being sacked by Villa back in February as the Premier League side struggled in his third season in charge.

Paul Lambert acknowledges that his main task at Blackburn Rovers is to take the club back to the Premier League, which he describes as a “massive opportunity”.

Sky Bet have tipped the Scottish manager to be the favourite to take over at Blackburn [as per Sky Sports], who recently parted ways with Gary Bowyer.

One player Lambert will be desperately keen to keep at Ewood Park is striker Jordan Rhodes, a player the new manager holds in the highest regard.

“I feel refreshed and I’m really looking forward to my first game”.

“I bring with me a very trusted backroom team that I believe is equipped to help me create an exciting era for the club”, he said.

Former West Brom manager Irvine, an ex-Rovers player and youth-team coach, has been appointed as Lambert’s number two, while Rovers’ former head of youth coaching Rob Kelly and goalkeeping coach Laurence Batty also join as part of the club’s backroom staff.

Despite overseeing a three-match unbeaten run in what proved his final games, Bowyer was deposed with Rovers languishing in 16th in the second-tier.

Lambert has a little time during the global break to get accustomed to his new stomping ground, before next Saturday’s spicy Lancashire derby away to local rivals Preston, 17, who haven’t conceded a goal in a staggering 540 minutes.

Blackburn are now under a transfer embargo although the club are confident this will be lifted to allow Lambert to make additions to his squad in the January transfer window. Can he guide the club to promotion?
