“I have to be more (ruthless) if I want to help the team fulfil its objectives”.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has set his sights on qualifying for Europe this season following his side’s 3-0 win over Premier League rivals Sunderland.

It was not the level that we need to show. our ball possession was poor, and then it’s always risky to play against Sunderland and you saw the difference in the second half.

We’ve got a lot of youngsters in the side and one or two new faces; while they were culpable of some of the mistakes, a few of our more experienced players were at fault too.

“That is a realistic target.

The three-goal hero echoed his manager’s words that the first-half performance was not good enough for the visitors. The players are not stupid – they know what they can do.”.

“Lamine is an important player for this club and I made that clear to him from the outset”, he said. “Following numerous phone conversation and face-to-face meetings, the latest of which took place today with David Moyes and Martin Bain, no contract has been forthcoming”, Kone said to Sky Sports.

After a goalless first half in which Everton had created several good goal-scoring opportunities, the deadlock was finally broken on the hour mark when Romelu Lukaku headed home from an Idrissa Gueye cross.

“The start in the Premier League is good – 10 points from four games – but we need to continue and we need to prepare for the next game on Saturday against Middlesbrough because maybe that will be more tough and more hard than it was in the second half tonight”.

Sunderland escaped a minute later when the lively Deulofeu broke free but his whizzing shot was blocked by Jack Rodwell, only for the ball to work its way out to Seamus Coleman.

The Belgian rattled the crossbar after turning smartly four minutes later, but made sure of victory when summer signing Yannick Bolasie picked him out unmarked at the far post.

The striker scored again in the 71st when he latched on to Kevin Mirallas’s through ball to slot the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a cool left-foot finish for his third career hat-trick, and second in the Premier League.
