Land Rover recalls 65,000 SUVs in US for door latch problem

The first, and far larger recall affects 65,352 2013-16 Land Rover Range Rover and 2014-16 Range Rover Sport models, and involves the vehicles’ keyless entry software.

Jaguar Land Rover issued two separate recalls this week, covering close to 66,000 recent Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and LR4 sports utility vehicles combined.

Doors that can fly open as you drive? This is obviously both a distraction to the driver and puts affected occupants at an increased risk of injury, particularly if they’re not wearing a seatbelt. After receiving those notices, owners will be able to take their SUVs to a Land Rover dealership, where the keyless entry software will be updated at no charge. For details about the Land Rover panoramic roof recall, refer to recall number P065, and for questions about the Land Rover door latch recall, refer to recall number P068. The adhesive and primer used to attach the affected sunroofs to the LR4 roof can weaken, causing excessive noise and water leakage. The recall is expected to begin August 7, 2015.

In one case, a consumer reported to NHTSA that the sunroof detached from the vehicle while it was in motion. Owners can then take their vehicles to a Land Rover dealer, who will apply the correct primer to the panoramic roof.
