As many as 35 people are missing following a landslide in southeastern China, state media reported.
Photo taken by a mobile phone shows the landslide site in Taining County of Sanming City, southeast China’s Fujian Province, May 8, 2016.
The landslide, which buried the builders’ temporary shed in a construction site of a hydropower station and damaged its offices, was triggered by heavy downpours that unleashed 191.6 millimeters of rain in 24 hours starting on Saturday. Almost 20 cm (8 inches) of rain fell in the mountainous region in less than 24 hours, according to the report. The mountainous country boasts rich scenic lakes and canyons.
Heavy rain has affected much of southern China since Wednesday, triggering floods and landslides.
