The landslide was reported late last night in Lidong Village of Yaxi Township in the outlying Liandu District of Lishui City, the city government said in a press release.

Rescue workers were struggling to pull people from the ruins of the homes.

Lishui reported heavy rain over the past two days.

The flooding, which has also damaged crops, was the worst since record keeping began in 1961, provincial weather authorities said.

According to Xinhua, over 87,000 people were affected by the flooding, which caused blackouts and road closures.
