It promises to be Canada’s strongest team at the Olympics and on Monday, Athletics Canada announced the 65 athletes bound for Rio on the heels of last week’s Olympic trials in Edmonton. That mark would solidify Nedow’s event victory and qualified him for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

“We’ll be looking to do what we do every day”, she added.

Three more of the team that won all-around silver at the World Championships in Glasgow past year are also selected with Olympic bronze medallist Kristian Thomas included alongside Nile Wilson and Brinn Bevan, who are set for their Olympic Games debuts. Nile Wilson and Brinn Bevan were both part of the historic 2015 World Championships team that took silver and make their Olympic debuts.

Callander native Taylor Milne will be heading to the Olympics for the second time. For me I try to look at it like any other competition. “Obviously I want to get on the podium, so I’m going to do my best”. That’s the main thing.

Gymnastics team leader Alan Edge said: “We are delighted to have selected a group of world class gymnasts who go to the Games in great form and confident of achieving successful results across the board”.

“I think some people counted me out after London and said I would not be around for this one”.

Canada won eight medals (two gold, three silver and three bronze) at last year’s IAAF world championships in Beijing, improving the national record of five in 2013, and good for seventh on world the medal table.

Becky Downie: “I’m really, really excited and pleased to be selected”.
