First and foremost, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has been named Motor Trend’s vehicle of the Year.

Chevrolet rolls out the 2016 Camaro Monday, October 26, 2015, as it announces the Camaro will begin shipping to dealers from General Motors’ Lansing Grand River Assembly later this week in Lansing, Michigan.

The newly redesigned Camaro is lighter than the previous models and comes with a choice of three engines.

There was a few stiff competition from Audi, BMW, the Honda Civic, and Mazda, but the sixth generation Camaro, which is Lansing-made, beat out the competition and the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Fifteen all-new or significantly updated cars were eligible for auto of the Year award.

The Chevy Colorado was also awarded 2016 Truck of the Year. This will serve as little more than a feather in the cap of the Camaro team, as that vehicle is going to sell like insane without any awards, but for the Colorado Diesel, this Motor Trend Truck of the Year award will help draw in more prospective customers. “Our Truck of the Year is not only stylish and capable on-road and off, it recorded the highest fuel economy numbers we’ve ever seen, when equipped with its class-exclusive diesel engine”, said Jason Cammisa, senior features editor.

Other Motor Trend Truck of the Year finalists were the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan XD and Toyota Tacoma.

Additionally, the magazine named the Volvo XC90 as its SUV of the Year for its overhauled chassis, new design and peppy yet efficient powertrain options.

The Volvo XC90 is a big, three-row crossover SUV powered by a small, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that’s supercharged and turbocharged, so that it produces a surprising 316 horsepower.

A big win for General Motors as two of their new vehicles win Motor Trend awards
