Eleven people were killed by Saturday night’s tornado outbreak. A typical day sees about 150 cancellations and 4,000 delays.

Further north, rain caused unsafe driving conditions and flooding in IL and Missouri, where Gov. Jay Nixon also declared a state of emergency.

Heavy snows also proved crippling in northern and western Texas, where many schools are closed today.

Vito Randazzo of California said he sat on I-10 for about 13 hours and people were sleeping in their cars. “Everybody’s just sleeping in their cars”, said Randazzo, who added that the roadway was snow-packed and icy.

Heavy rains have led to widespread flooding in Missouri and, at least eight fatalities have been reported.

The Texas Governor received a briefing from the Department of Public Safety’s State Operations Center and Breitbart Texas obtained a video from the press conference. The bodies of the other two soldiers were found Sunday morning.

City officials said this was only the second time since 1950 that such a powerful twister struck the area.

Most of the deaths were in the Garland area.

Other parts of the city saw damage, too, and assessments will be completed this week.

600 structures are damaged and many neighborhoods remain closed.

In Garland, about 600 buildings were damaged, including homes, apartments and commercial property. The area was under a tornado warning at the time, but no tornado has been confirmed.

Winter storms that brought ice and high winds to Oklahoma downed power lines and 54,000 customers were without power on Monday in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas, Oklahoma Gas & Electric said.

Five people died in their cars on a highway passing the city of Garland.

Blizzard warnings were in effect through Monday evening in eastern New Mexico and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.

It warned of “blizzard conditions” from west Texas into Kansas, and “hazardous ice accumulations” in Oklahoma.

As a result of the same storm system, 20 states from New Mexico to MI and Georgia had some type of weather watch or warning Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
