Larry Wilmore addresses ‘Nightly Show’ cancellation, jokes ‘racism is solved’
The most disappointing bit about the show’s cancellation, Wilmore said, is not seeing the 2016 election through.

Wilmore is also now an executive producer on the ABC sitcom Black-ish, for which he served as the creative head until The Nightly Show began, which replaced The Colbert Report when Colbert left the network to host CBS’ The Late Show.
Wilmore, who previously was the “senior black correspondent” on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show, then took the time to reflect on his mission with The Nightly Show.
The 54-year-old Wilmore wrote for “In Living Color” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.
After Comedy Central announced yesterday that it’s chose to cancel The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, last night’s episode went from a typical election season episode to one of the last four episodes ever, and Wilmore opened the show with some thoughts on the sad news. His departure in late 2014 to host CBS’ “The Late Show” was much-mourned by his devoted fans who continue to miss the bloviating commentator he portrayed on “The Colbert Report”.
Earlier Monday, Comedy Central announced The Nightly Show had been canceled, in part, because of its low ratings. Its current midnight slot will be filled by repeats of other Comedy Central shows.
Wilmore’s response was characteristically candid and wry: “I’m really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity”, he told THR.
“But I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this insane election or “The Unblackening” as we’ve coined it”, his statement said, referring to the fact that a white candidate will be replacing President Barack Obama and all that entails. In a statement, Wilmore noted, “And keeping it 100, I guess I hadn’t counted on “The Unblackening” happening to my time slot as well”.
“We’re all in with Trevor Noah”, Alterman said, according to the AP. It wasn’t about the election; it’s about another year of the show.
Fellow “Daily Show” graduates John Oliver and Samantha Bee have proven particularly popular on rival networks, with Mr. Oliver’s HBO show “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” and Ms. Bee’s TBS program “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” doing well in the ratings.
