Larry Wilmore Reveals His Next Step After Nightly Show Cancellation

Larry Wilmore’s Comedy Central gig is heading into its last days, and as he ponders The Nightly Show’s cancellation, a fellow Daily Show alumnus sent Wilmore a little something to help numb the pain. So Larry said he wasn’t planning on drinking again, but then he got a delivery from another Daily Show alum and late night talk show host, Stephen Colbert.

“Apparently he robbed an airline or something”, Wilmore said behind a display of the hard stuff, arranged in a portrait of Colbert.

“Even though I have zero fucks to give at this point, I have plenty of booze to give”, Wilmore said, as he started the segment.

I reported here previous year about an extended segment Wilmore did on “The Nightly Show” about reports that the Texas state board of education had approved elementary and secondary textbooks that were “whitewashing” history. Wilmore then made sure to secure himself some drinks for his final episode by saying, “You better step up rest of late night, daddy needs some more juice, okay? I’m looking at you Last Week”. It was Jon Stewart, with whom Wilmore worked on “The Daily Show” (in which Wilmore was “Senior Black Correspondent”) who pitched the idea for “The Nightly Show” and tapped Wilmore to be its host.
