Larson captures emotional first win

I was starting to get choked up.

“The pole was nice we just weren’t as competitive as we were in the spring race”. Elliott is the top driver In points among non-winners and would be first in line for an at-large spot needed to fill the 16-driver field. That’s the best summary of Sundays hard fought race at MI. This was his 99th race in Sprint Cup, and Larson became the third first-time victor of the weekend for all three of NASCAR’s national traveling series.

Larson also secured a spot in the 10-race Chase for the Championship with two races left in the regular season. Assuming no other new winners like Larson, teammate McMurray is locked into a tight battle with Elliott, Austin Dillon and Ryan Newman for the final three spots in the Chase available to those qualifying on points.

Kyle Larson held off Chase Elliot and Brad Keselowski to win his first career NASCAR race.

Still seeking his first victory in his rookie season, Elliott had an opportunity to win at MI in June but likewise fell victim to a late restart. I also made a mistake early on in the race. “That’s Kyle. I think it’s important to understand that these guys are not robots. they’re all different”. They gave me an awesome auto here.

Then a late caution changed everything and gave Larson a second chance.

In his 99th career start, Kyle Larson is finally in victory lane in the Sprint Cup Series after winning the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday.

“I wouldn’t have been surprised if he won in his first two or three starts, and wouldn’t be surprised if it took him 10 years”. Four laps later, Michael Annett blew a right front tire, and NASCAR called the fourth and final caution. Kurt Busch is fourth in points with 721 while Joey Logano has 716 points. The Pure Michigan 400 was the sixth consecutive race missed by Dale Earnhardt Jr.as he continues to recover from a concussion thought to have been sustained in a crash during the last Michigan race in June.

Last week, it was veteran driver Kevin Harvick who earned the victory for the bowtie brand. As long as he stays in the top 30, he’ll be in the Chase thanks to his victory at Pocono earlier this month.

RCR has won the past three races at Road America with three different drivers – Brendan Gaughan, Paul Menard and McDowell.

“You can go practice (restarts) if you want to rent a racetrack, sit there and restart all day long if you wanted to, I guess”, said Elliott, who has made just 29 career starts in NASCAR’s top series.

WHO’S NOT: It was another rough day for Kyle Busch at MI.

A day after one of the most demonstrative victory celebrations in at least a decade, Larson seemed sheepish about the exuberance he showed at Michigan International Speedway.

We’ve got another new victor this year and now only two races left in the regular season before the start of the Chase. He was so pumped up with adrenalin, Larson was still holding his steering wheel in his hand as he exulted in joy while standing atop his No. 42 Target Chevrolet. To dictated it a few laps before us and took two tires for the tech position on the forehead hit a few laps before us we can opinion on the left we need to depend on to make it to the end.
