Larson gave a rare display – by NASCAR standards – of raw emotion after winning his first Sprint Cup Series race Sunday. “Dave (crew chief Rogers) did a great job there at the end”.

As long as I’m doing that, I said to avoid Alex Bowman and Clint Bowyer in that same salary class, and they both finished with negative points. “As some of them retire, and we are working with our team owners to bring guys in like Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson, it really bodes well for the future”. “In my mind I thought, ‘Man, I hope one of these guys gets it'”. Brad Keselowski is 25 points behind followed by Carl Edwards who is now 50 points behind him.

The 24-year-old Larson ended up winning at MI, with the 20-year-old Elliott coming in second.

The victory came in Larson’s 99th start in the series, long after most observers expected Larson to record his first win. A caution came a lap later, and Larson took the lead on a lap 125 restart.

“I think it’s a small improvement in showcasing driver talent to be able to win races”. NASCAR, once again, tested an ultra-low downforce package in Sunday’s race.

Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson lead the pack at MI. This was his 99th race in Sprint Cup, and Larson became the third first-time victor of the weekend for all three of NASCAR’s national traveling series. Despite his inability to close in on the victory, Elliott remains secured in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and has a 27-point advantage over Austin Dillon below him. “That was the only place you could make a large sum of ground in a short period of time”.

After a lengthy, rain-delayed affair in Bristol a week prior, the Sprint Cup Series traveled to Michigan International Speedway for the Pure Michigan 400.

“I probably went a little overboard”, Larson said Monday. “I’ve been so close here at Road America for a few years”.

“That’s a couple races in a row in just a few short months here at this place we had a really good vehicle, had an opportunity”. “We’re really missing Brian”.

Meanwhile, Larson got a push from Keselowski, and Larson used the jump to take the checkered flag.

Ryan Blaney, who is another Rookie of the Year candidate, finished off the contest in fourth.

The victory came in Larson’s 99th start and it came accompanied by watery eyes.

Rosberg moved nine points behind his Mercedes teammate, but Hamilton got a victory of sorts after picking his way through the field for a 97th podium finish after being relegated to the back row because of multiple grid penalties for extra engine part changes this weekend. So, thanks to him.

“We kind of ended on a down note there”, he said post-race. “I had a lot of fun”. Martin Truex Jr., Jimmie Johnson and Keselowski also led laps in the first half of the race, with Keselowski’s laps led coming as a result of staying out later during green-flag pit stops.

With the Pure Michigan behind us, here are 5 lessons learned from this week’s race. It was the fifth top-10 finish for him in the past seven races. “For the second time this has happened”.

The son of seven-time MIS victor Bill Elliott was critical of himself then, and he wasnt in a much better mood following the Pure Michigan 400.
