Las Vegas stadium backers to give update on site search

Or they could decide to take another big step back.

The Oakland Raiders may be following the example of Stan Kroenke’s Rams and heading to a new location soon, with Las Vegas expected to be the destination.

Last week, the Raiders – who are obviously mulling a possible relocation – filed for three trademarks linking their franchise to Sin City. If that happens, the Raiders could end up staying in Oakland or possibly moving to Los Angeles, or moving to some city where Mark Davis has close relatives. The team did not seek to trademark a logo related to the prospective move.

That’s not to say the Raiders aren’t serious about exploring a move, especially with the way they’ve seen so little movement on a stadium in Oakland.

The Chargers were granted a one-year approval to relocate to Los Angeles.

The Raiders, however, weren’t the first to seek out a trademark for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Oakland Raiders are looking to shake things up a bit.

Goldstein’s comments followed a presentation from backers that showcased glitzy renderings of an National Football League stadium at two sites: the northwest corner of the Bali Hai golf course and land north of Russell Road and west of Interstate 15.

Things are always going to be unusual when Las Vegas billionaire Sheldon Adelson is in the mix.

Goodman, however, thinks legalized gambling in Las Vegas should be a non-issue. The sports books in Nevada are the best at what they do. A new visitor’s tax has also been proposed to help pay for the it.

“It’s got the potential to be a very exciting market”, Davis said in May about Las Vegas.

Per Matt Youmans of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Davis made it clear in June that he meant to pursue a move to Vegas: “The opportunity came up in Las Vegas, and we’re giving it full bore”.
