Last day of Ramadan, 1,6 bln Muslims celebrate

Mumbai: Muslims will celebrate Eid-ul-fitr or Eid on Thursday as the new moon was not sighted on Tuesday.

To mark the beginning of Eid and in accordance with the Sunnah, or practices of the Prophet Muhammad, many Muslims wake up early in the morning and pray Salat ul-Fajr, or the pre-dawn prayer.

This year Eid al-Fitr is expected to begin on Wednesday, July 6.

The biggest gathering in Jammu was at the Eidgah ground in Residency Road area where a good number of Hindus greeted the Muslims after the prayers.
