Last rites of Kalam to be held in Rameswaram: Collector

Patna/Bhopal: As a wave of tributes and encomiums poured in after the death of APJ Abdul Kalam, an Agricultural college in Bihar was on Tuesday named after the former President while a chapter on his life is to be taught in schools in Madhya Pradesh.

“Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was an eminent scientist, educationist and administrator”.

His aides went to the IAF official and conveyed the message from Kalam, who as President was also the supreme commander of the armed forces. Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu is among three ministers who accompanied Kalam’s body on Wednesday.

At Madurai, the body was received by Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah.

Recalling his humble beginnings and his rise to the country’s highest office of President, many among the crowd remembered how he had inspired them to dream big and strive to achieve it.

The government has declared a seven-day national mourning as a mark of respect for Dr. Kalam, who played a stellar role in advancing India’s nuclear programme.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a number of other different leaders would additionally attend Kalam’s final rites on Thursday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar named Kisanganj Agriculture college after him. Jayalalithaa, however, announced her inability to travel to Rameswaram owing to her health condition.

Kalam’s mortal remains were flown to Delhi from Guwahati earlier today.

Political parties like the DMK and the AIADMK have cancelled their functions.

Meanwhile, his family members have also reached here.

MPCC(I) President Gaikhangam has also sent his condolence at the sudden demise of the former President. Thousands of students like Nandakumar and his batch-mate Kishore are expected to arrive in Rameswaram to attend Dr Kalam’s funeral.

According to Saleem, the last rites will be performed around 10.30 a.m. on Thursday. The state government has decided to celebrate October 15, the birthday of Dr Kalam, as “Vaachan Prerna Divas” (Inspirational Reading Day). His father owned a ship, and his mom continually struggled to hold the family sufficiently fed and clothed.
