Late-Night Hosts Pay Tribute to Garry Shandling

Comedian Garry Shandling died suddenly Thursday (March 24) in what was, as Conan O’Brien puts it, a “devastating shock” to the comedy community. “I loved Garry. We were fulfilling his wishes to see the show move to HBO”, Sony Pictures Television chairman Steve Mosko told The Wrap.

Shandling died at the age of 66 after a long Hollywood career. The problem was that due to rights issues, the show is unavailable on HBO GO or HBO Now.

Before 30 Rock and The Office, there was The Larry Sanders Show.

“I was at a really low point”, the late-night veteran said. It is a ideal, ridiculous Larry Sanders moment.

“Garry was my dear friend and was and always will be my teacher. I never had the chance to get to know him, but I’ve heard he was a great guy”, Meyers said.

“We have been crying/laughing/crying through Jerry’s last day with Garry all afternoon”, Seinfeld captioned a photo of her husband, Jerry and the comedy legend pictured laughing during filming of his series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

“The Larry Sanders Show”, which aired from 1992 to ’98, was a show within a show starring Shandling as a neurotic talk-show host. I am just too sad. Conan went on to describe a kind man who had a lot of empathy for others and described him as very caring. “Maybe tomorrow I will do better”.

Shandling, known best as the eponymous character on The Larry Sanders Show, suffered from a sudden heart attack Thursday and was taken to St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica at 10:40 a.m. TMZ reports Shandling was alive when he arrived at the hospital but later passed away. “We will miss him terribly”.
