Latest Nexus 7 To Power Android Nutella? Release Date Confirmed in August

For now the Nexus 5 is missing from the action, although some of the Android N screenshots that Google included to showcase Android N on its site were taken on the older Nexus.

The Nexus 7 did not receive any air time during the Google I/O in May, despite a developer preview launched last March. The date is simply holding Google to a guarantee, meaning there’s a chance your device could continue to receive updates after this pseudo expiration date. This also somehow indicates that next year’s update, probably Android O will be a month early. Companies like Samsung, LG, HTC, and Huawei plan to release a software update for Android N after Google releases it, but judging by previous years, some of those users might get some update months later, if ever. However, this year, rumors have been pointed toward Google handing over the manufacturing of the upcoming Nexus devices to HTC and their possible unveiling in August. When it comes to Android version updates, Google says that these will be provided “For at least two years from when the device became available on the Google Store”.

Google is tipped to launch its next Nexus smartphone around August this year, and the rumor streams have already started to gain pace on this.

Multiple variants are also speculated to arrive with the device, classified by its internal storage space – 32GB for the entry level variant, 64GB for the mid-range version and 128GB for its highest model. Speculations suggest that the new slate will be coming with other new Google products like the HTC-made 2016 Nexus devices.

So if you’re looking to pick up a Nexus device it might well be worth waiting to see how this latest rumour pans out, rather than buying a 5X or 6P ahead of the support cut-off point.

It is further expected that one of these Nexus smartphones will feature a 5-inch display while the other high-end version will have a 5.5-inch display.
