Starbucks (SBUX) has added a new menu item called a “Latte Macchiato”. The drink rolls out here in the U.S., Canada, and parts of Latin America tomorrow and costs between $3.75 and $4.25 for a tall.

The Latte Macchiato is made of two basic ingredients – espresso and milk – but Starbucks tells Us Weekly that the beverage has “its own distinct flavor compared to other espresso menu items”.
While the drink shares a name with the sweet Caramel Macchiato, from a business perspective it’s a clear successor to the Flat White.
The drink is comprised of “perfectly aerated and free-poured” steamed whole milk marked with shots of espresso, according to the description on the coffee chain’s website. Starbucks debuted the beverage nearly exactly a year ago in January 2015. The barista then marks it by slowly pouring in espresso, leaving a “dot” of espresso on top of the milk, a spokesperson explained to TODAY.com.
Basically, the difference is that a Flat White (back) is the product of foamed milk added to espresso, while a Latte Macchiato is created when espresso is added to foam.

It will join Starbucks’ lineup of existing espresso drinks, which includes Doppio Espresso, Caffe Americano, Cappuccino, Caffe Latte and Flat White.
