Launch trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian
The 3-minute trailer shows more of Astronaut Mark Watney (Damon) figuring out how to survive on Mars – mostly set to “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix. He’s presumed dead, but he’s not quite there yet. A battered but breathing Watney determines he needs to “science the shit out of” his situation in order to maximize his meager Martian resources until he can hopefully be rescued. He’s cheerfully unaware of the NASA official (Jeff Daniels) who doesn’t see the dollar sense in mounting a rescue. This has been kickin’ around for a while now, whetting our appetites with the irony that Matt Damon also played a “stranded” astronaut in Interstellar (Jessica Chastain was also in that movie!).

Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig and Sean Bean are a few of the A-list names who likewise star alongside Damon in the adventure flick – talk about one impressive cast!
20th Century Fox released Wednesday a new trailer for the movie, which stars Damon as astronaut Mark Watney. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto worldwide Film Festival in September and then hit theaters nationwide on October 2nd. Ridley Scott directed the film.
First, of course, he has to let NASA know that he’s still alive – and that alone is a massive undertaking since a storm of some kind has destroyed all communication equipment.
The movie’s lighter feel is reinforced in the latest trailer, which places even more of an emphasis on humor.
On Tuesday, to celebrate the release of the second trailer, Fox and Damon hosted an event at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, California).

Meanwhile, NASA and an global team of scientists are trying to help him from 140 million miles away. Watney has all of these characteristics, and we’re going to see how they all come together to keep him alive.
