Laura Trott and Jason Kenny help secure Team GB’s best away Olympics

Jason Kenny won the keirin for his sixth Olympic gold matching Sir Chris Hoy and his fiancee Laura Trott won her fourth Olympic gold medal with a masterful ride in the track cycling omnium, leaving her rivals fighting for podium places as she defended her title easily. Her tally in Rio stands at two golds. And Kenny equalled the British record haul of Sir Chris Hoy after winning his sixth Olympic gold in a tense keirin final that had to be restarted twice, causing havoc to the BBC’s programming schedule.

Kenny was spared disqualification from the race after appearing to pass the motorised derny pacer bike in the first false start.

Trott-who won two golds in London in 2012-previously won gold in the team pursuit in Rio.

Trott is open about the fact she’s had to make sacrifices to be successful.

Earlier on Tuesday, 29-year-old Giles Scott won gold in sailing’s Finn class, maintaining Britain’s sailing supremacy in the heavyweight dinghy event.

“There’s no secret, no magic”, Team GB sprint coach Justin Grace told L’Equipe (link in French).

If we weren’t sure before, after day 11 in Rio and that heart-meltingly cute embrace, we’re now totally convinced that Laura Trott and Jason Kenny are the ultimate couple.

Other nations have questioned Britain’s dominance in the velodrome. “I didn’t want to waste any of them”. “They come en masse at this high level and I have no idea how they do it”. “We have incredible faith in the athletes and our sports and with a number of them still to compete we are hopeful of creating yet more history and new heroes and heroines”.

“To think someone up there was judging that on the naked eye in the spur of the moment, with millions watching on TV and the atmosphere here, was quite a big call”, Dyer said.

Emma, however, has posted on Facebook to say that she absolutely does not begrudge her sister’s success and simply said: “I don’t think I am any prouder or Laura that someone else is of their own sibling”. “So yeah, I really enjoyed today”. He was already an Olympic champion, but when he won those three medals, to me it was really special.

The American finished with a score of 15.966, while team-mate Aly Raisman won silver and Great Britain’s Amy Tinkler captured bronze.

Laura Trott has come to her sister’s aid after Twitter users branded Emma Trott bitter and jealous following a Good Morning Britain interview.

She wrote: ‘Arghhhh! I love him to bits @JasonKenny107!

Put to her that she would have to share Kenny, the 24-year-old from Cheshunt said: “He’s still mine”.
