Trott won the omnium at the London Olympics and she now has four gold medals, the most by a British woman in Olympic history.
Between them Kenny and Trott have won five gold medals at the Rio games and are one of British power couples after adding to their medal haul from the London Games four years ago.
Kenny would also have to hold off Laura Trott, his fiancé, who is just two behind with four career Olympic gold medals, the fourth of which she won on Tuesday.
Their wins capped another outstanding day for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team, with Becky James and Katy Marchant winning silver and bronze respectively in the women’s cycling sprint.
The official with the gun on the side of the track fired on two occasions after deeming that the riders had passed the rear wheel of the derny pace bike before it had left the track.
The competition’s most decorated athlete, swimmer Michael Phelps of the United States, has continued to dominate the 2016 Games.
None of the men he overtook on that final stretch though won a medal in what was an incredibly tight finish as Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands won silver and Awang took bronze.
And even now she struggles with acid reflux that can make her throw up after training.
She dominated throughout to win with 230 points, a whopping 24 clear of American Sarah Hammer.
The first time it was Kenny and Malaysia’s Azizulhasni Awang, who had an agonizingly long wait before the judges ruled that all the cyclists could compete in the restart. The German edged out favourite Rebecca James in both races to walk away with the gold. With one eye on her closest rivals at every stage of the 25km race, her lead at the top of the leaderboard soon became unassailable after the halfway point.
“Clearly one nation moved ahead of the rest and made some pretty significant gains in a short period and we weren’t able to match that”. “I am so proud at what I achieved”, Trott told reporters after holding up a British flag with “Go Trotty Go” emblazoned across it.

Boardman, who won gold in the individual pursuit at the Barcelona Games in 1992, also posted on Twitter, insisting his comments had nothing to do with Laura Trott’s gender.
