Laverne Cox speaks about Caitlyn’s impact on trans community

However, as a new video reveals, some members of the trans community are still extremely apprehensive and even angry about the impact that the former Olympian’s very-public transition has had – and continues to have – on the community.

The 31-year-old star is a vocal LGBT advocate and spokesperson, so it’s an important topic that’s very close to her heart.

Laverne agrees, giving praise for Caitlyn’s attempts to “represent” the community.

“It’s not about positive representation or negative representation, but diverse representation. I don’t know”, Caitlyn says at the end of the clip.

“I know for me, I had to fight to get my surgery, and I didn’t have that kind of money”. “Working class. Black”, Cox said.

It goes without saying that every individual journey is different and personal.

Touching on Caitlyn’s unique position, Laverne added: “I think what is so handsome is that she’s using her privilege to elevate the stories of other trans folks that don’t have the privilege that she does”.

The 65-year-old star then asked one of the show producers to edit together Blossom’s story from their earlier encounter so she could send it to Ellen DeGeneres, who the aspiring nurse had said was her inspiration. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, is one of the most sought after celebs of 2015, and she is receiving TV offers and endorsement deals left and right.

Caitlyn Jenner is reported to be in negotiations to join the cast of Orange Is The New Black.

The remainder of the hour is both an enjoyable watch and also exactly what I was afraid of with this series – we abruptly leave San Francisco and it’s almost like the previous scenes didn’t happen…I’m guessing the lessons learned from these last two episodes will increasingly become mere background.
