Law enforcement Torch Run sets stage for Special Olympics

It was rainy and a little chilly, but that didn’t stop runners from showing up and showing their support.

The Special Olympics Torch Run started earlier Wednesday morning in Stuttgart.

The men and women who help protect our community took a jog in College Station to raise awareness for the Special Olympics.

The Summer Games will be held Friday, June 10 and run through Sunday, June 12.

Hundreds of runners and walkers from the CCSO and the community are expected to join and run with dozens of special athletes and their families. The other is the Special Olympics North Carolina Golf Classic, slated for August 6 with the tee time of 1:30 p.m.at the Sapona Ridge County Club.

Special Olympics events will run all weekend in Guelph and Waterloo Region.

Registration is not required, but participants must purchase a Torch Run T-shirt or hat and arrive at Texas Roadhouse by 8:45 a.m.to participate in a group photo.

TAPD officers will run over 18 miles before handing over the torch to the Hope Police Department. The annual run raises funds for the Special Olympics.
