Lawsuit: New Jersey pork roll company fired employee for passing gas

Richard Clem is in a stinky situation: His wife filed a lawsuit last month against their former employer who allegedly fired him for farting too much.

Case Pork Roll Co. owner Tom Grieb denied the accusations, and told The News Courier neither of the Clems were fired, but that they quit rather than accept pay cuts because of poor business.

In the suit, filed September 11 in U.S. District Court in Camden, Luann Clem said that in firing her husband, Case Pork Roll Co. violated the American’s with Disabilities Act and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

Louann Clem says after her husband was sacked she quit the same day.

Rich Clem was ultimately fired on February 28 of previous year, according to the report.

“We have to do something about Rich,”the lawsuit says Dolan told Louann Clem”. “As a result of the surgery, Mr. Clem suffered side effects such as extreme gas and uncontrollable diarrhea”, the lawsuit notes.

Clem’s symptoms worsened in 2013 and caused “significant disruption in the workplace”, according to the suit.

Richard Clem supports the lawsuit and is taking legal action on his own through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Louann left the job as well because she was so disgusted with the company’s “harassment and discrimination”. “Even I took a pay cut”.

“They were never discriminated against”, Grieb claims. “That was the end of it”. It seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

“We have to do something about Rich. This can’t go on”. “Does being obese mean you can’t do a good job?”
