Lawyer expects no new accusations against Klishina after 2016 Olympics

The International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) is unlikely to accuse Russian long jumper Darya Klishina of violating the anti-doping rules or opening new cases against her after the 2016 Olympics, the athlete’s defense lawyer Paul Green told journalists.

It was reported earlier that the Russian track and field athlete Darya Klishina was banned from competing at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

This follows a ruling early Monday by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) allowing Darya Klishina to compete in the long jump event. She proved to be clean for competitions, the only (Russian) track-and-field athlete to meet the IAAF competition criteria.

IOC President Thomas Bach announced in late July that Russian athletes, with the exception of track and field competitors, were allowed to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics based on individual approval of each respective worldwide sports federation or association. “The parties were informed that the application was upheld and that the athlete remained eligible to compete in the Olympic Games in Rio”, the CAS statement read, reports Xinhua news agency. In rendering its decision, the court noted that Klishina has been training outside Russian Federation for the last three years and passed drug testing regularly, the Associated Press reports.

The long jumper also said that she has been based in the United States for three years and “almost exclusively tested outside of the Anti-Doping system in question”. “It’s beyond the realm of common sense”, AP quotes the Russian official as saying.

More than 100 Russian Olympians were banned from the games after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) uncovered a massive, state-sponsored cheating scandal.
