Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no assets overseas, but continues to receive colossal amounts from his son, Hussain Nawaz, who is settled in the United Kingdom, reveal the statements of MNAs’ assets released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday.

The net worth of the Prime Minister’s son-in-law is only Rs 5 million, aside from some 20 acres of land in Mansehra district and around 215 acres of barren land in Rajanpur, Punjab.

Talking to reporters, a PML-N lawmaker involved in the discussion over the government’s possible response to the opposition parties’ demand, said, “The government is also brainstorming the option of formally asking for the CJP’s input if the commission can be formed under his aegis or a serving judge of the Supreme Court”. PM Nawaz said that attempts are being made to destabilise the country.

Sources said that the prime minister will address the nation at 08:30 pm on Friday in which he would take the nation on board about initiatives taken by his government following leakage of Panama Papers.

Mian Nawaz Sharif said his Government fully believes in elimination of corruption, good governance and transparency. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Khursheed Shah has said that the solution did not lay in the formation of a judicial commission.

He also requested the media to first confirm facts behind any allegations before bringing it to the public.

He added that all political parties are in agreement and united on the issue of Panama Papers, and the government’s tactic of diluting important issues will not work.

Justice Saqib Nisar will perform duties as the Chief Justice in his absence.
