LCBO launches online sales with home deliveries by Canada Post

The LCBO says 800 of the products available online will be exclusive to LCBO.com and will not be available in any of their retail outlets. Customers can choose to have their order sent to an LCBO store of their choosing for pick up, free of charge, or choose to have it delivered directly to their home, anywhere in Ontario.

Starting immediately, LCBO has launched online sales of alcohol through LCBO.com – offering up to 5000 products from across Canada and 85 other countries.

According to the Canadian Press, the Financial Minister Charles Sousa believes the government-owned alcohol corporation needs to “evolve and modernize”.

This new sales channel also provides an opportunity for small local producers to access the LCBO customer base without having to provide product to store shelves.

If you’re planning a backyard party or a casual get together, you can order wine, beer, cider and liquor.

Today’s e-commerce launch strengthens LCBO’s ability to generate revenue for Ontarians and continue to fund key public services such as health care and education.

The LCBO.com site will also be good for suppliers of alcoholic beverages from around the world who are not well represented in LCBO stores because they don’t meet the production quotas needed to be listed by the liquor agency.

There’s a $50 minimum order. It paid a dividend of $1.935 billion to Ontario, an increase of $130 million.

LCBO’s new online platform creates business opportunities for local and global suppliers, including those who couldn’t previously supply the 655-store LCBO network.

It follows an agreement last week by Premier Kathleen Wynne, British Columbia Premier Christy Clark and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard to greater choice, convenience and expanded access to wines from their provinces through online ordering.

LCBO’s e-commerce platform is endorsed by government and supported by the Premier’s Advisory Council on Government Assets to improve customer service and choice.
