‘Lead weight of separatism’ dragging Scotland backwards, says Ruth Davidson
“It appears that the summer offensive, which will now be an autumn one, is aimed at persuading No voters to change”.

In Scotland’s independence referendum two years ago, 55 percent voted against and 45 percent in favour.
Scotland voted 62 percent to 38 to remain in the European Union in the June 23 Brexit referendum.
Scotland’s first minister, who has been the subject of relentless questioning and speculation throughout her career about her childlessness, said she hoped her honesty “might challenge some of the assumptions and judgments that are still made about women – especially in politics – who don’t have children”.
With improving education the “defining mission” of her government, Ms Sturgeon said an Education Bill would be brought in to make the necessary legislative changes.
“There are many reasons why women don’t have children”, she said.
Much of Scotland voted to “remain” in the EU Referendum and Sturgeon is keen to create distance from Westminster, which she argues has a “democratic deficit”.
“I believe it is right that our party does now lead a new conversation on independence”.
“The information we gather is another factor which will influence our next steps, alongside whether the United Kingdom government is interested in a Brexit deal which protects our status within the European Union”, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
In addition to this, Ms Sturgeon announced the SNP would establish a party growth commission, which will look at the prospects for Scotland’s economy and also consider key matters such as currency.
“My view is absolutely clear, I think Kezia is a fantastic, young, strong, woman leader of the Labour Party in Scotland and she is doing a fantastic job in hard circumstances, having inherited a set of circumstances where Scottish Labour is at a very low ebb, and she’s got Jeremy Corbyn hanging around her neck like a millstone”, he said.
The First Minister will add: “The UK that existed before June 23 has fundamentally changed”.
The Welsh MP spoke on the day that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon launched a national survey seeking the views of two million Scots on independence, Europe and Brexit.
Since then, Ms. Sturgeon has continued to repeat that the option of a new referendum on independence, after that of September 2014, is on the table.
In a speech in Perth, Ms Davidson said: “Nicola Sturgeon said yesterday that she wants to listen to people who voted No in the hope of meeting their concerns”.
The 2014 Scottish referendum was agreed between Edinburgh and Britain’s national government, but it was a political agreement rather than a court ruling, said Professor Michael Keating, Director of the Centre on Constitutional Change thinktank.
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said: “Nicola Sturgeon has already decided that independence is the answer to Brexit”.

“Re-heating the referendum debate will only add a further cloud of uncertainty over Scotland’s future, just at the moment when we need a government dedicated to security and stability”, Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said, according to Reuters.
