League of Legends board game announced

The primary minis look very nice. Now, though, you’ll be able to enjoy the game on a whole new level, because League of Legends is getting a board game.

The game releases on October 13 at 11 a.m. PST exclusively from the Riot games merch store and it’ll be $75 plus shipping.

League of Legends is such a huge franchise that its power can not be contained within the confines of a single video game.

After an article went up last week and was swiftly edited to remove all mentions of it, everyone was buzzing about the rumored board game Riot Games was releasing.

If you’ve seen Avalon Hill’s classic game Robo Rally, you know the drill. Unlike Robo Rally, your MvM deck will also contain attack cards, along with the ability to stack matching cards for stronger movements and attacks.

Mechs vs. Minions is described as a fully cooperative tabletop game that can be played by two to four players, with a total of 10 different missions available that have playing times of about 60 minutes to 90 minutes each. Games with that many fiddly bits tend to go for around $100. There is even a mystery item in the box, though players are encouraged to not open it until they’re asked to do so during the course of the game. It’s only a bit above average, actually, and quite a bit cheaper than most other games that feature so many components. Programmatic card systems work pretty well in competitive games, where players are all anticipating and reacting to each other’s secret plans, so our first worry is that such joy will be muted when you’re scheming and plotting against the board itself. Board gaming outlets will surely be keen to find out.
