Leaked Apple Watch 2 parts reveal totally reworked internals

The parts leaked by British fix firm Byte show that the bezel on the front of the Apple Watch 2 will also be smaller than its predecessor. The Apple Watch 2, which the company is expected to detail next Wednesday, is said to pack in more battery life and possibly contain a Global Positioning System chip. That’s why Apple needs to find a way to fit a bigger battery inside the same body – nobody wants a thicker Apple Watch, it’s already thick enough. Burdened with a less than intuitive UI and just barely acceptable battery life, the Apple Watch has remained more of a niche product than a mainstream hit a’la the iPod.

While this is certainly welcome news, we should point out that a larger capacity battery doesn’t automatically translate into extended battery life. I noted on Monday that a larger battery is needed for a Global Positioning System that pings your location, and the S2 chip could be more power-hungry than the weaker S1 chip.

A questionable source has materialized claiming to have pieces of the new “Apple Watch 2”, including a Force Touch gasket, a revamped screen assembly, and a larger battery.

Aside from battery, Byte says the alleged Apple Watch 2 components include a “noticeably thinner” display compared to the original Apple Watch panel.

To make room for the new GPS, barometer and larger battery, it appears that Apple has reconfigured the layout of its system on a chip and added a new display that looks significantly thinner.

Apple fans would only be able to confirm the upgraded specifications of the Apple Watch 2 when the Cupertino giant finally pulls the wraps off of the device next week during the September 7 event that’s primarily intended for the debut of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones.
