Meanwhile, Powell also unloaded on Clinton, expressing his frustration within his inner circle about himself being tied to the controversy surrounding Clinton’s email practice during her stint at the State Department.
“He appeals to the worst angels of the GOP nature and poor white folks”, Powell wrote of the Republican White House nominee, in one of the messages obtained by DC Leaks, a website affiliated with other recent hacks of high-profile U.S. figures, and first published by Buzzfeed. There is concern that leaks from the site are meant to influence the outcome of the upcoming presidential election.
The House Select Committee on Benghazi report released in June found an array of bureaucratic miscues and inter-agency blunders but does not specifically blame former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Powell added in August 2015, according to the Intercept: Trump “appeals to the worst angels of the GOP nature and poor white folks”. “He can never overcome what he tried to do to Obama with his search for the birth certificate hoping to force Obama out of the Presidency. Or, demanding his school transcripts to see how he got into Harvard-(eg, affirmative action)”. “To go on and call him an idiot just emboldens him”, Powell said.

Leeds also wrote that the Clintons refer to the president as “that man”. In another spot, he declared of Clinton that “Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris”. Clinton claimed during her interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding her private email server that Powell used private email too while serving as secretary of state and gave her advice on how to set it up.

Powell has claimed that his use of private email was much different than the setup Clinton had with a home-brewed server.
