Leaked DNC email floated plan to question Sanders’ religion

DNC and Clinton campaign officials did not respond to requests for comment Friday as reporters and unnerved campaign staff tried to assess the damage caused by the release, which comes just as the party holds a nominating convention in Philadelphia created to project unity after a bitter primary season.

The emails include several stinging denunciations of Sanders and his organization before and after the DNC briefly shut off his campaign’s access to the party’s key list of likely Democratic voters.

“We need to push back”.

If you’ve made any contribution to the DNC, you probably want to search your own name right now to see if your details have been exposed.

Wasserman-Schultz reacted angrily, writing that this was the “LAST straw” and instructing communications director Luis Miranda to call MSNBC chairman Phil Griffin to demand an apology from Brzezinski. “We have interacted with state parties all across the country. Article has been updated”.

A 19 May 2016 e-mail raised questions about the proper handling of funds by the DNC and the Clinton campaign, in which one staffer appeared to admonish another staffer for leaving a paper record of potentially prohibited funds transfers.

On May 5, a DNC employee asked colleagues to “get someone to ask his belief” in God and suggested that it could make a difference in Kentucky and West Virginia. “He had (sic) skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage”.

“I don’t really think this makes sense. My southern baptist peeps woudl draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist”.

Dubbed the “Hillary Leaks series” by Wikileaks, the leak is comprised of a searchable database of nearly 20,000 emails with over 8,000 attachments from the email accounts of seven top DNC members. Mediaite notes that in another email on this thread, Marshall said “It’s these Jesus thing”. “Clinton likely to win the state convention with a slim margin and we’ll send a release with final delegate numbers”. “[I] t’s because [the Sanders camp] never had their act together”. Although Sanders and Fox News both agreed to debate, the DNC and Clinton campaigned never sanctioned the debate and it never happened.

Later in the day, Miranda sent a follow up email to Todd laying out a memo trying to convince him that Wasserman-Schultz was not in fact unfair to Bernie Sanders.

“This is a silly story”, the chairwoman said.
