Leaked: DNC official wanted to smear Sanders’ religion (or lack thereof)
Sanders proceeded to live-tweet Trump’s speech, noting the various points of contention he has with the GOP candidate, including on what Trump called his biggest issue, trade. I think I read he is an atheist.

One email features DNC staffers pondering ways to undercut Sanders, an insurgent Democrat who had a bitter relationship with party leadership. Sanders’ name is not mentioned in the note.
The Intercept contacted Marshall, who said he didn’t recall the email, but said it wouldn’t have been about Sanders but rather a “surrogate”.
A top DNC official also noted that the Hillary Clinton campaign used Israel “to marginalize Bernie”. However, he was the only Jewish candidate from either major party at the time and has repeatedly skirted questions about whether or not he believes in God. After a series of email exchanges in which Wasserman-Schultz instructed a staffer to contact Real Clear Politics and have the story changed, the staffer replied: “Done”.
One that’s getting a lot of attention is an email sent by the Democratic National Committee’s chief financial officer, Brad Marshall, to DNC Communications Director Luis Miranda and Deputy Communications Director Mark Paustenbach.
“Chuck, this must stop”, Wasserman-Schultz wrote. “Or that she even matters, to be frank”, she said in a May 19, 2016, message.
Trump’s selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as a running mate was created to build bridges to Republican donors who have either avoided supporting Trump or actively opposed him.
The Hill has a separate report about Debbie Wasserman Schultz calling Sanders’ campaign manager a “damn liar”.
Sanders himself had not publicly responded to the leaked emails as of late afternoon on July 22, hours after the trove was released by WikiLeaks.
