Leaked fixtures are confirmed as a hoax

Although the image looks authentic, the Premier League have already moved to dispel one supposed leak when documents claiming to show the upcoming fixtures for the new season appeared across social media.

“What has been put into the public domain over this last weekend is a hoax”.

It said via its Twitter account that the fixture was in fact a “hoax” while adding that the league were still 10 days away from “being able to review a first draft” of the fixtures.

If the document is to be believed, Jose Mourinho’s first top flight match in charge of the Red Devils will come away to Burnley on 13 August.

The fake list had Stags away at Colchester United on the opening day and ending the campaign with a home game against Accrington Stanley.

“We can confirm the ‘fixture list” published online at the weekend is a hoax.

“We understand the excitement that a new set of Premier League fixtures holds to the fans and media”, the statement read. Newly promoted Wigan Athletic would have hosted the relegated Newcastle United while Norwich City would have hosted Fulham on their return to the Championship.

The Premier League – and Football League – reacted quickly by sending out a Tweet to say it was a hoax, adding that fans will have to wait until June 15 to learn the real deal.
