Leaked HTC One A9 Training Slide Combats Apple Imitation Allegations

Despite the newly-unveiled HTC One A9 looking like a near carbon copy of the iPhone 6S, HTC has claimed that it is in fact Apple that has copied its designs.

Speaking at a press conference in Taiwan, China and North Asia HTC President Jack Tong said: “We’re not copying”.

Benchmarks for the new HTC One A9 have been posted online, showing strong results that matches several last-generation flagships.

If the new HTC One A9 looked familiar too you, it’s probably because it’s near-identical to Apple’s iPhone. “This is a change and evolution, and we’re not copying”, Tong said.

Neither Apple nor HTC immediately responded to PCMag’s request for comment. The One M7 was genuinely the first all-metal unibody phone with antenna bands on the back.

Let us know how you feel about HTC’s new direction. Or maybe Apple copied HTC for the antennas and then Apple copied HTC on the body design.

Even if we think of the One A9 as a natural evolution of HTC’s original phone design, what does it mean for your company that the most recent evolution of your phone ends up being just a cheaper, year-old iPhone? On Twitter, Mackenzie has called those who claim it’s HTC copying Apple, “history revisionists”.

For a limited time, the HTC One A9 can be pre-ordered from the HTC website for only $399.99. Tong shared that the latest model is different from the previous phones like the One M9, One M8, and One M7. The new design is expected to be seen in the future Desire and premium M phones.

It doesn’t, however, make any noise about how the rear camera bump looks also similar despite being located in the middle instead of a corner. “Are the phone’s differences going to get people to choose it?” According to the source, the slide is part of a training package on the One A9, indicating HTC wanted to be well-prepared when dealing with the accusations it seemingly expected.
