Users receive instant feedback on the brushing of each zone of the mouth via the Oral-B App 4.1, including guidance on pressure applied and brushing duration. The smart brush from Oral-B also utilises position detection, SmartRing lighting system to track location, pressure, and brushing time. A smartphone holder is included that supports placement of the smartphone on the mirror in the bathroom.
“In addition to having essentially made teeth brushing into a video game – let’s call it “candy brush” – Oral-B is also investigating third-party options such as partnering with banks to offer financial rewards as an incentive to get younger kids – and perhaps some adults – to perfectly polish their pearly whites”, the report added. Oral-B at the ongoing Mobile World Congress unveiled its smart, connected toothbrush.
If you start going off course or brush with too much application, the Genius toothbrush will adjust its speed all by itself.
Dr Jose Nart, a doctor of dental surgery in Barcelona, says the toothbrush will ensure people brush at the right pressure, for the right time and in the right area. The company insists that based on its study, about 80 percent people don’t spend enough time cleaning their teeth. It seems that the Oral-B Genius can certainly help users improve brushing habits, keep track of their performances, and ultimately improve oral hygiene.
Brushing incorrectly (or not at all) is frowned upon in the dental profession; no one wants a yellow smile, missing teeth, or, frankly, a root canal. Alongside the Oral-B mobile app (for iOS and Android), the toothbrush works to determine exactly which parts of your mouth need more attention.
While there is no word on the pricing of the toothbrush, it is expected to be available in select markets starting in July.

Power for the brush comes from a rechargeable lithium-on battery inside the handle good for two weeks of regular brushing without a recharge.
