The school and the LeBron James Family Foundation are still finalizing the criteria for the scholarships. James is giving kids from Akron-ones with challenging backgrounds like his-the chance to go to college for free. That means the first group of these kids will be hitting college by the fall semester of 2021.

James has had a long-standing relationship with the university. But to anyone who is now in (or has graduated from) college, you know that tuition is more than likely to bump up by the time these kids are ready.

Before they went inside the park, there was a rally in the parking lot featuring music and dancing that was topped with a big announcement from James and from University of Akron president Scott L. Scarborough. The result was an initiative they believe will inspire the area’s youth to achieve and reach their potential.

The foundation has just recently partnered with Cedar Point to host annual family reunion event this year.

“He has a chance to change their futures”, Campbell said.

About 300 Akron kids enter the foundation’s educational program each year, so a total of about 2,300 students could potentially be eligible for the scholarships, Scarborough said. “This is a program that focuses on the local area”.

“I think it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever been apart of, this is very special to me”.

“We’re excited about this and it does represent what the university wants to be about in the future”. And JPMorgan Chase announced it will set up a database program to help the foundation track how its students are doing.
