The Cavaliers were adamant in maintaining their double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, as the team furthered the lead to 30 points in the second half, allowing little advancement by Brooklyn.
ATLANTA (AP) – After leading by 21 points in the first half, the Cleveland Cavaliers were pushed past regulation by the Atlanta Hawks.
Over the last six games versus Charlotte, Cleveland has outscored them by an average margin of 9.8 points (103.8-94.0).
There’s little that LeBron James could do that would surprise the National Basketball Association masses. James, the four-time MVP, who didn’t play in the fourth quarter, has 26,689 career points.
James is more focused on securing the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points but made only six of 21 shots from the field and had five turnovers for the Celtics, who lost their second game in a row. Early in the third quarter, the Hawks went on a run, nearly instantly cutting the Cavaliers’ lead to eight points early in the third.
Small forward Thaddeus Young led Brooklyn with 18 points and eight rebounds, while small forward Bojan Bogdanovic had 14 points and point guard Shane Larkin had 13 points, five boards and eight assists.
With wavering effort, too much reliance on LeBron, the firing of former head coach David Blatt, Love’s questionable fit and poor defense, not to mention the worrying chemistry, the Cavaliers don’t look too convincing as a threat to defeat the Warriors or San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Redick, as coach Doc Rivers chose to rest them. “These Cavs should make the Finals, but can they do more?”
Everyone knows how important the top spot and home court is when the playoffs come so expect the Cavaliers to keep the momentum and pressure going as they finish off the campaign.
Kyrie Irving, who said that the Cavs were “the team to beat” earlier in the week, scored 20 points and dished out seven assists. He subsequently deleted the tweets regarding their relationship.
“It hasn’t been hard”, he said.
“I’ve been through a lot of adversity in my life”, he said.
Hopefully we’ll get to a point where everything with the Cavs doesn’t seem like it will lead to a total locker room mutiny. “I wouldn’t say overall because Golden State won it all past year”. “For me, it’s just coming to work every single day, doing what I need to do in order to provide for my family and be there for my brothers”.
Irving flipped to LeBron, who dribbled over the timeline on the left side as teammate Tristan Thompson crossed in front of him to the right.
“We’re all just there for him”, Lue said. “He’s in good hands”.
Parker finished with 26 points, Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, and Greg Monroe and Khris Middleton each added 18 points as the Bucks snapped the Magic’s three-game winning streak.
The Cavs now have 7 more games left in the regular season.
