LeBron James apparently has all the gold he needs this summer.
Lebron James has joined other National Basketball Association players in pulling out the Rio Olympic Games.
According to the report, James’ agent Rich Paul informed USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo on Thursday that he doesn’t intend to play for the team.
James played in the last three Olympics and won gold medals in 2008 and 2012. The city celebrated with a parade that drew more than a million people downtown Wednesday. While Clevelanders claim James as one of their own, at the end of the day, the superstar is really just a kid from Akron.
He was being honored Thursday night in his hometown, Akron, CBS affiliate WOIO reported.
James played in three previous Olympics and is Team USA’s all-time leading scorer with 273 points.
Also, Portland point guard Damian Lillard (foot) won’t be part of the team due to injury and San Antonio forward Kawhi Leonard he withdrew his name in a team news release.
“This was a very hard decision”, Leonard, 24, said in a statement released by the Spurs. He won gold in 2012 and 2008 with U.S. as well as bronze in 2004 Athens Olympic. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Steph Curry, Anthony Davis and LeMarcus Aldridge have all declined for various reasons.
