LeBron mulls joining Popovich in Tokyo on Team USA
Krzyzewski will coach his final game for United States of America in Sunday’s gold medal game against Serbia, and Popovich, the San Antonio Spurs’ coach, will take over for the next Olympic cycle.

At an event hosted by the LeBron James Family Foundation last week in Sandusky, Ohio, James welcomed more than 5,000 kids and their families to a local amusement park for a fun-filled day as part of the initiation for new members of his “I Promise” campaign.
However, the four-time MVP recently insisted he was just taking a break from U.S. duty following another dramatic finals series – his sixth appearance in a row at the big dance. He made a decision to not join Team USA in their quest for a third consecutive gold medal, took time off to party with his wife, scored a 3-year deal to continue playing in The Land for $100 million like he won MegaBucks, and signed a billion-dollar (with a “B”) lifetime endorsement deal with Nike.
“It would be pretty unbelievable to be able to actually play for the greatest National Basketball Association coach of all time”, LeBron told Zigllitt. But for LeBron to go a step further and give Pop the title of greatest coach in National Basketball Association history is high praise.
The amount of care LeBron James shows for his community goes unmatched by that of any other professional athlete I’ve come across in my lifetime.
The Cavaliers star was referring to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who will replace Mike Krzyzewski as the next coach of US hoops.
Jackie McMullan takes us through every step of Pop’s long and fascinating journey that eventually lead him to becoming the head coach of Team USA for the 2020 Olympics.
The two have crossed paths a number of times in the past and James has often spoken in admiration of the five-time title-winning coach. “Obviously my body has to continue to be in the form that it is today four years from now”.

LeBron is a student of the game, giving this claim even more weight. For him to put Popovich ahead of such National Basketball Association coaching icons like Red Auerbach, Pat Riley and Phil Jackson is a pretty bold statement. With James, you never really know.
